The Faculty Liaison Officer (FLO) is responsible for representing the interests of medical students to the faculty, improving channels of communication and organizing Exam Surviva Nights and Phase Introduction Nights.

Over the past few years, the UNSW faculty and Medsoc have worked together to increase representation and streamline the two-way communication channels.

  • The FLO is now a member of several faculty committees
    1. Curriculum Development Committee
    2. Program Evaluation Committee
    3. Faculty Standing Committee
  • The FLO will have semi-regular meetings with senior members of the Faculty
  • The FLO is now a member of the MedSoc Executive, reflecting the importance of this role for UNSW medical students.

These roles help build on other channels of communication available between students and the University, which we seek to better utilise and make more accountable in the future:

  • Informal communication between students, and course convenors/academics
  • Formal channels of communication through the website
  • Pro-forma university-wide mechanisms (i.e. the CATEI forms)
  • Direct to the Faculty of Medicine, Office of the Dean (depending on the nature of the complaint)
  • Through faculty-run focus groups and information sessions (run by Gordon Rees, Manager of the Undergraduate Program)

The second major role has to do with organising events which give students an opportunity to discuss the most effective use of learning resources and exam revision strategies with those who have designed the curriculum. Look out for our upcoming events this year.

Proposed Dates
Phase Information Nights: -

  • Phase 3 Info Night: February 17th
  • Phase 2 Info Night: March 15th and May 15th

Exam Surviva Nights: -

  • Phase 2 ICE Surviva (1st): February 15
  • Phase 1 Surviva: March 22
  • Foundations Exam Prep Night (Year 1): April 9
  • Yr 6 Viva Surviva: August 3
  • Yr 5 Viva Surviva: October 11
  • Phase 2 ICE Surviva (2nd): October 18
