Conference Subsidies PDF Print E-mail
Written by Cam Korb-Wells
Wednesday, 07 May 2008

Recognising the importance of student participation in academic conferences, seminars and other educational activities external to the University of New South Wales, the Faculty of Medicine each year provides funds to subsidise student attendance at such events. MedSoc is responsible for assessing student applications for these subsidies and provides a recommendation to the Faculty on which events should be supported.

Activities shall (at a minimum):

  1. Be academic in nature;
  2. Be of relevance to medical students;
  3. Have a significant representative component for UNSW, with favour given to presentations and publications;
  4. Have a precedent of previous sponsorship by the Faculty of Medicine.

The delegate(s) shall report to the Medsoc Council upon their return in the form of a short presentation.

If you are interested in applying for a conference subsidy, please forward documented evidence of the above and an itemised list of forecasted expenses (i.e. event registration, transport costs) to the President at a2e6f97cbc30a4ba8bbf8e5a5e476ba6

The application will be discussed amongst the Executive committee at the next Executive meeting, where the application and its merits will be discussed. The President will subsequently recommend any approved application to the Faculty. Evidently, due to the limited nature of funds available, it is possible that costs may not be fully subsidised.

Australian Indigenous Medical Electives Database (AIMED)

AIMED is an initiative by two UTAS medical students in an effort to encourage and enable medical students to undertake medical electives with Australian indigenous people – in urban, regional, rural and remote settings.

We are hoping for AIMED to be fully operational and launched nationally in April 2008. Check it out @ www.aimed.org.au.
